Since its launch in 1931, the Amerigo Vespucci has consistently been used for training officiers from the Naval Academy in Livourne in the conduct of military marine and naval operation, and for Italian navy trainee officiers and pilots.


From 1931 to 1955 the training ship crossed the Atlantic to the United States, Central America, Brazil and Argentina end completed many cruises on the North Sea and to the Eastern Coasts of the Atlantic.

the Hamburg-based shipping company, Ferdinand Laeisz, has become world-famous under the name « Flying P.Line ». Ordered at the beginning of 1911, the great 4-mast sailing ship “Passat” left Hamburg on 24 December for its first voyage to Chile via Cape-Horn.

Given to France as a war indemnity, the Laisz company bought it back on 22 December 1921 and after being completely re-fitted it resumed its voyages around Cape Horn. The “Passat” went on its final voyage in 1957
