1/12 Scale 2010 Ford Shelby GT500 – Revell.

1/12 Scale 2010 Ford Shelby GT500 from Revell…

  • Scale: 1/12
  • Length: 395mm
  • Parts: 130
  • Revell-Monogram
  • Build Time: 700+ hours

Big kit, some good points but also some bad points. First real issue is it has moulded in doors, wipers, and other details you would not expect a big kit like this to have. Having said that, the engine is well detailed, I spent a week building and painting that alone, time well spent, the kit presents some flash but again when cleaned off and sanded down it does assemble very well and everything lines up, A car this big would show off some of the tiniest flaws, so take your time and the end result will demand attention from anyone looking at your collection.

The Phantom II used a refinement of the Phantom I’s 7.7 L (7,668 cc or 467.9 cu in) pushrod-OHV straight-6 engine with a new crossflow cylinder head. Unlike on previous 40/50 hp models, the engine was bolted directly to the 4-speed manual transmission.[1][3] Synchromesh was added on gears 3 and 4 in 1932

She was a frigate rated at 44 guns (though she carried around 50 most of her fighting days.)  In her 200+ years, she has been refurbished and restored a number of times and very little of her structure is original.  She rests now in Boston and is the oldest commissioned warship in the world.

The Build

A beautiful kit, nice detail and if you are prepared to take time to do it, perhaps one of the best large scale ships available. Built over a period of 18 months, the rigging alone took 6 months, although I did have periods I left it alone simply to break up the build, which can be very concentration intense and time consuming, I have seen quite a few finished but never one when rigged with full and studding sails, so I knew this was going to be finished with complete sails and running rigging. 18 months and then a full weekend to shoot the photographs, there are quite a few!
